Sounds of Peace - Nawang Khechog

Sounds of Peace - Nawang Khechog
A deeply felt prayer for the ears and spirit, performed by Nawang Khechog with Tibetan bamboo flute, didgeridoo, and bells. With long, soothing phrases, this former Tibetan monk invites you to experience the profound interior calm that allows for cultivation of a loving spirit. Each phrase and note of Sounds of Peace invokes an extraordinary tranquility (one hospital has used it hundreds of times to soothe women in childbirth) and is regarded as a valuable meditation tool itself. Through this spare, haunting work we become the wind, the clouds, the mountains, the rivers - we become peace. Ten compositions.

Quiet Mind: The Musical Journey of a Tibetan Nomad - Nawang Khechog

Quiet Mind: The Musical Journey of a Tibetan Nomad - Nawang Khechog
Born of Tibetan nomads, Nawang Khechog discovered in childhood a deep affinity with the bamboo flute. In 1959, he fled to India and spent 11 years as a Buddhist monk before bringing his music to the West. Despite worldwide praise for his work, Nawang resolved in 1991 to return to mountain seclusion – until the Dalai Lama himself encouraged him to continue to share the power of his music with others. Quiet Mind reflects the far-reaching travels of this remarkable musician. It is his most personal transmission, a continuous prayer that imparts serenity to everyone it touches. With didgeridoo, Incan pan pipes, and ocarina.

Mindfulness for Beginners - Jon Kabat-Zinn

Jon Kabat-Zinn's voice is calm, quiet, and gentle. It fits his discussion of meditation and acceptance though, to be honest, at times it is so calm that listeners may miss key points, or some of the dry jokes he drops subtly into the lecture on the first CD. However, his calm fits the second CD perfectly. On that one his voice allows listeners to relax mind and body and simply follow the guidelines he explains during the five guided meditation exercises. His tone and slow pace allow trust to build with each breath and are evidence of his success in his own stress reduction.

The Saltmen of Tibet (1997)

The Saltmen of Tibet (1997)
Since time immemorial, nomadic herdsmen have lived in an extremely harsh environment on the plateau of the Himalayas, pasturing their yaks in the highest meadows of the world. Every spring, the men of the tribe set off with their robust pack animals on an arduous three-month journey to the salt lakes of northern Tibet. The film follows this traditional nomadic caravan, steeped in religious ritual but doomed by technological progress, as it sets off to the salt lakes to haul the "white gold" back to their native valleys. Shot under the most difficult of conditions, The Saltmen of Tibet brings the viewer as close as possible to the mysterious and religious experience of another world.

The Lion's Roar - The Classic Profile of the 16th Gyalwa Karmapa

This is the masterful portrait of the late 16th Gyalwa Karmapa, the great Tibetan Buddhist master known as the Black Hat Lama. He is recognized as the embodiment of the teachings of the Kagyu lineage of Tibetan Buddhism, one that traces its source through Tibet’s greatest teachers Milarepa and Marpa to India’s Naropa and Tilopa all the way back to the Shakyamuni Buddha himself.

Features rare footage of renowned Tibetan Buddhist lamas Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche, Kalu Rinpoche, Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche

Filmed on location in Sikkim and North America, with archival footage from France

Power Yoga - Total Body Workout

Power Yoga - Total Body Workout
Power yoga "demands your attention," says instructor Rodney Yee. He leads a challenging, constantly progressing series of poses, one flowing into the next, integrating breath, movement, tension, and relaxation. The poses include Sun Salutation, standing poses, forward bends, back bends, twists, and arm balances. The first poses are fairly easy, and with each repetition of the series, Yee adds on more difficult movements, extending the series without pausing. You're encouraged to do as much of the series that fits your level, up to the entire 65-minute workout if you're an experienced yoga practitioner. Although you can begin at any level, some familiarity with yoga is recommended. The Hawaiian setting is gorgeous and inspiring. This is an excellent yoga workout that you can grow with, adding on more as you get stronger.

Himalayan Chants - Ashit Desai

Here's a Album that brings me right back to those days spent blissing out in Rishikesh.

Himalayan Chants - Ashit Desai

Born to Kunjbihari and Mayuriben Desai, Ashit inherited music from his parents. After a degree in Commerce, Baroda-born Ashit took a Diploma in vocal music from M.S. University and left for Mumbai to realize his dreams. Ashit rose to the aspirations of his parents and in no time carved a niche for himself in the world of music. At 18, he won the All India Radio's Best Singer Award in 1969. Thereafter, awards, accolades and distinctions followed him. He received the Gujarat State Award in 1976 & 1989. Ashit has been a playback singer for more than 25 Gujarati films and has received the best playback singer's award for his song in the film 'Sonbai ni Chundadi'. He has performed in a number of concerts all over the country, and his programs are regularly broadcasted on AIR and Doordarshan. His association with Sitar Maestro Pandit Ravi Shankar paved way for greater name and fame. Ravi Shankar assigned music composing task for the Asiad & placed him in charge of overall coordination of cultural events. Ashit's efforts were rewarded by the coveted Asiad Jyoti Medal by the President of India. In 1988, he conducted Pandit Ravi Shankar's orchestral compositions at the closing ceremony of the Festival of India in Moscow. As the maestro's assistant, orchestra conductor & singer, he toured the U.K. & India in 1989 with Panditji's ballet, 'Ghanashyam'. Ashit also sang for Attenborough's film 'Gandhi'. Together, they have groomed their son Aalap, as a fine singer and tabla player. The trio have hit foreign soil many times and have enthralled the audiences with their impeccable music and heavenly voices. Their contribution to Gujarati music have compounded manifold with the composition of albums like Saral Gita, Pooja na Phool, Vande Sadashivam highlighting Yogeshwarji's poetic masterpieces. Music world is looking forward to them in coming years for hitting even greater heights.
